Characteristic Analysis of Isokinetic Trunk Muscle Strength in the Low Back Pain Patient

Abstract
The purpose of this study was to investigate the characteristics of isokinetic trunk muscle
strength in low back pain syndrome. 49 low back pain patient (15 males, 34 females) and 17 healthy subjects(9 males, 7 females) participated in this study. Flexion and extension on trunk muscle strength were measured with an isokinetic
dynamometer
(Cybex 6000 system).
1. Great differences exist between the peak torque values for male and female, so male in peak torque on trunk flexion strength was 95.8-103.1% higher, extension strength was 75.8-105.4% than that of female. There was a significant decrease in
peak
torque on extension strength for female (67.7%) and male(51.4%) in low back pain patient.
2. Maximal trunk strength was measured at 30 deg/sec and decreased with protocol velocity increase but no significant difference was seen.
3. The ratio of extension/flexion muscle strength was approximately 1.06-1.22 in healthy and 0.88-0.69 in low back pain patient.
4. Total work in low back pain patient was decreased at level of 40% in male, 65% in female in healthy subjects.
Result from this this investigation show grater male isokinetic trunk strength, low back pain patient was decreased significantly on trunk extension strength than that of healthy person.
